The Upcoming Oil Crisis

With approximately 25% of the oil refining capacity in the US shut down because of Katrina, American's are as alarmed as during the gas shortages of the 1970's.

However, it is finally being reported that the problem is not necessarily the oil feedstocks but the capacity to refine the oil into many products such as gasoline and diesel fuel. Opening the Strategic Reserves will probably not be a big help, as it will not help the refining capacity.
It is a "feel good" measure to appease a public and media that have no idea of the real problems, let alone possible solutions. This is because the general public at large has no idea about the connections between the various infrastructures such as electricity, water, transportation or energy supplies.

Unfortunately, at a time that the United States needs a creative, educated and informed public, we are consumed with reality TV, Britney Spears etc. It is my opinion, as an author about water supply and terrorism, that without such an informed public, the solutions to oil, terrorism, water supply and other problems are made almost impossible.
